Healing-centred architectural design for collective memory

Enabling healing through mindful design of spaces

Through our partnership with Office Sian Design + Architecture, we have been shortlisted for the Grenfell tragedy memorial competition in the UK. Our collaboration extended to Structural engineers, Community engagement specialists, Horticulture specialist, and Landscape architects. By being embedded within the multidisciplinary team from the onset, our role for the past year has been to help the team to think through and implement a healing-centred approach to the architectural design of the memorial following the tragedy.   

Our team (Emilie, Dean, Riva) have been involved in every step of the activities and engagement with the Grenfell commission and the community to co-develop a trauma-informed approach to the entire process. We have been working on:

  • Developing trauma-informed policies and processes 
  • Training and capacity-building on professional practices alongside every engagement
  • Reflective practice groups for the professionals
  • Supporting the team's reflection through psychological concepts of memorialisation.

We are dedicated to continue to explore multidisciplinary ways to respond to the memorialisation process as part of our effort to support recovery and restorative justice.
