Wilton Park convenes international strategic dialogues as an executive agency for the FCDO [Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office] of the UK government. Government representatives and key stakeholders, CSOs, and Experts-by-Experience (sometimes including SGBV survivors) join a 3-day-long residential stay in secluded and confidential premises to address key challenges. An intimate collaboration with the Wilton Park team has enabled the development over the past 10 years of a very refined trauma-informed model to ensure the participants hosted are supported through possible moments of emotional fragility throughout these discussions.
The team occasionally joins hands with some of our experts, Emilie and Dean, to provide a truly safe space for survivors, who have survived the most extreme forms of violence, and for activists, who are also often targets and witness to the violence and its devastating effects. We have developed an approach that offers the necessary emotional grounding to enable powerful advocacy and hereby contribute positively to participants’ healing journey.
Some examples of events we supported: “Conflict-Related Sexual Violence – Survivors Retreat”, “What will it take to end gender-based violence? Rethinking pathways to preventing violence at scale”, and “Sexual violence in conflict: delivering justice for survivors and holding perpetrators to account”.
