The Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative [PSVI] from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office [FCDO] of the UK government was created in 2013 and placing Survivors of conflict-related sexual violence at the heart of the initiative was a priority. Ever since, Emilie has been involved as part of the PSVI Team of Experts, as a psychosocial expert to support the survivors to engage with the PSVI work. The support overall has enabled them to find their voice during their participation to the key advocacy events in the highest diplomatic platforms.
In close collaboration with the PSVI champions, we developed trauma-informed set ups during the PSVI conferences and the various planning events in Wilton Park to ensure the safe participation of survivors. In 2022, training on psychological trauma, Psychological First Aid, and reflective spaces were facilitated to the FCDO team at the interface with the survivors-participants and activists.
The accompaniment devised enabled the meaningful participation of 60 survivors of sexual violence across gender identities and sexual orientation and frontline activists from conflicts around the world (e.g. Columbia, Kosovo, Iraq, Rwanda, DRC, Syria, Nigeria, Nepal, CAR, Ukraine). Emilie and Dean led a small team of clinicians who worked relentlessly throughout the event to preserve the emotional grounding of participants. This way, they could advocate during the important debates in ways that could contribute to their own journey towards healing.
